TEAM REPORTS
1. "No Names" win!
The U10 Boys "No Names" - yes that is their name - the "No Names" - wonderful - won their 1st game 5 -1. The team had only one practice prior to the game and yet, coach Mike Kennedy said that they were able to come together to pass and play as a team on both sides of the ball. It was a good demonstration of playing as a team and stretching out the field with the long passes and positional play. Congratulations to each individual player on their efforts. Go the "No Names" Excellent.
2. "Blue Breakers" roll
Brian Roach, Dad of Emmalee Roach of the Cordova Bay Blue Breakers U12 Girls Silver Team sent this report: "Cordova Bay has a promising U12 Girls Silver Team this year, as indicated by their first game on Saturday, Sept. 24th - a 5-0 win over the Bays United # 2. The Blue Breakers had goals from Chelsea Howells, Liz Burden, Caitlyn Anderson and two from Lauren Mannix. Nicolle Conti, playing with a sore ankle, was in goal the whole game - a strong performance recording her first shutout of the season. Mackenzie Dirkie, Jillian Alley, Samantha Billson and Kelsey Hong all turned in solid defensive performances, while Maria Verbrugge, Emmalee Roach and Rhyley Bremner were imposing up front. The Cordova Bay Blue Breakers U12 Girls Silver Team is made up from last years two undefeated Cordova Bay U11 Girls teams - the Dynamos and the Cool Cats (last year they tied 0-0 in the league game). Six of the players are from the Dynamos, six are from the Cool Cats and Rhyley Bremner joins the Blue Breakers from Prospect Lake - welcome to Cordova Bay Rhyley." Thanks Brian and go the Breakers!
3. "Vikings" Plunder!
The Cordova Bay u-12 Boys Gold team (The Vikings) had an impressive start to their season this last weekend upending Lake Hill 6-1. While there were 4 players who managed to place the ball past the opponents goaltender, the victory was truly a balanced team effort. Well done Connor Mcmanaman, Derek Bolin, Jordon Reda, Sam Prette, Pieter Heerschop, Jordon Karcher, Mason Loewen, Fergus Hall, Ryan Fedrigo, Adam Donald and Tilai Elice-Stairs. Good stuff guys - a really brillaint start to the year.
4. "Thunder" SOS
Shawn Dheenshow writes that, unfortunately, the U9 Girls' (Thunder) game was cancelled, so what they did was participate, on behalf of our association, in the SOS Children's Villages and Global Peach Games at Royal Athletic Park. The event was held to help raise the awareness of the challenges faced by other members of our soccer family around the world. The girls had lots of fun and did some new drills. They learnt about challenges of girls their age from countries like Africa, enjoyed some Boston Pizza and were shown live on A Channel Sports. Well done girls - sounds great and many thanks for geting so involved on behalf of all of us.

Before moving to other match reports - based on facial "configurations" can anyone tell me which coaches on the sidelines at Lochside fields on Saturday had been to the Robert Plant concert the night before!

5. "The Team" off to a good start
Klaus Heyde - Coach of the U16s Girks side "The Team" sent a note to say that they are undefeated after they tied the first game vs Peninsula 1-1 and won last weekend againsta a good Cowichan team 2-1 - a great start to the season for the girls.
Kathy Butler backed up Klaus's assessment with this report: "'The Team' (yes this is their team name) has had a great start to their season, undefeated in their first two games. This team has many regulars from past years, but has welcomed back players who have been away at another team, or have come back after a year off. Thanks to great coaching from new head coach Klaus Heyde and assistant coach Lyle Ottenbriett, the girls are showing great ball control and making great plays because the are "TEAM" players! The last game against Cowichan Strikers, displayed beautiful plays, including the first goal by Rachel Maximichan with a beautiful lofting kick professionally placed just out of reach of the goalie, in the first five minutes of the game. The second goal was slammed in by Krista Butler about half way through the second half aided by a great cross. The outstanding plays by the Cordova Bay Goalie, Sam, kept the game at 2-1 by the game end whisle." "TEAM" rules!
6. U8 Boys tune ups!
The U 8 Boys started their season with a little warm up tournament amongst the three teams on Saturday morning at 8am. The U8 Boys this year are chockfull of talent. All deserve mention but it was great to see Darryl Hong full of running, Leo Neill almost score after a fine solo run, Isaac Donaldson shooting hard, Roberto Fedrigo tackling firmly, Cole Beevor-Potts following the play so well and all the players giving everything. A beautiful day, some great play and onward for a tremendous season for all 3 teams this year.
7. U21s at Burnaby
"The Cordova Bay FC U21 squad finished off their pre-season training on a high note. On September 2nd, the Cordova Bay FC U21 squad went over to Burnaby BC, for the 19th Annual Masters Soccer Tournament. The three day tournament had over 40 teams from across BC (we were the only Island team), the squad held up against some of the provinces best U21 teams, and showed exceptional poise on the field. Overall they represented Cordova Bay in fine fashion and benefited greatly from the high calibre soccer.”
8. U15 Girls 1-1-0
Coach Katie Nelles sent this report on the U15 girls silver team: ..."off to a good start. It's a bit of a transition as we have quite a few new girls on our team and everyone is just starting to get to know each other. Regardless of that, we won our first game (Sept. 17) 1-0 against Juan de Fuca. Our defence (Eileen Heckel, Chelsea Green, Laura Nelles, Kelsey Houston and Stacy Ledoux) had a great game and kept the play mostly in the opposition's end. Alissa Klem scored the goal for us during the first half. This weekend's game was hard played and we tied Cowichan 0-0. Cowichan had us on the run in the first half, but our girls got organized and came on strong in the second half. Our new keeper Nicole Morrison made some fabulous saves and was instrumental in the resulting tie. In all, a great start to the season with a group of enthusiastic U15 soccer girls!" Fantastic!

10. LIGHTS! TIMES! TIMER! OFF!
Please note the following regarding the Lochside Park Lights: The lights are on a timer at Lochside Park. The electricity is timed to come on each day at 4:30 PM and go off at 10:00 PM. However, this does not mean that the LIGHT SWITCHES at the clubhouse can be left in the ON position. The light switches must be turned OFF each night after practice or after any scheduled evening games or else the lights will automatically come on at 4:30 PM the next day. This has happened once already this year. If you are the last team to practice on any evening or you have a scheduled game in the evening, please make sure that the light switches are turned off and the light box is locked.
11. GOALS: NORTH AND SOUTH AND...
Just a reminder - PARENTS DO YOU MIND HELPING OUT HERE AS COACHES HAVE LOTS TO DO - All goals must be returned to the north or south fences after practices and games. Goals are not to be left on the field or in between the two main fields. Saanich parks staff are responsible for cutting the grass, lining the fields and doing field maintenance during the soccer season. They cannot do this when the goals are on the fields.

13. UNIFORM HELP
Loree Elder (Uniform Coordinator) would like to acknowledge Krista Butler, Breanne Crisp, Holly Cochrane and Rachel Ottenbreit (current and past Cordova Bay soccer players) for their time and hard work in helping to organize and distribute soccer uniforms for the teams. They volunteered many hours at the end of August and beginning of Sept. to help me get the uniforms ready for the coaches to pick up on Sept. 6th. Krista and Rachel also helped with the uniform exchange on Sept. 19th. Thank you to all of these girls! Thank you also to those coaches who have gotten their team uniform lists to me so promptly. I am still waiting to receive others. They can be placed in my mailbox at the clubhouse or dropped off at my house (4672 Sunnymead Way). For those players who could not make it to the uniform exchange last week, I can be contacted at home (658-1803) to arrange a time to exchange inappropriately sized shorts or jerseys.
14. THE REFS
A quick note of appreciation to all those who are in the middle, blowing the whistles this year. It is not an easy task. Things can get a little rough with players, coaches and spectators. [Though of course they shouldn't!]. But just to say that all in the club appreciate you and, of course, without you, there would be no games! Thanks.
15. PRACTICE SCHEDULES

PRESIDENTS UPDATE AND REQUESTS!
Items 16 and 17 below are from Drew Smyth:
16. CHANGES
As has been well documented, there have been many changes to the club since last season. Primary amongst these is that we no longer have a Pooled Team Agreement with Prospect Lake Soccer Club. This has presented us with some challenges in forming teams, but overall I would like to think we have come through relatively un-scathed and in the end I believe this experience has made us a better organized and more focused organization.
When one door closes, invariably another opens, and so it is this year where the club strengthens its working relationship with Gordon Head Soccer Club. This is highlighted by our joint venture in the minis program (U8-U10), where we will have an inter-locking game schedule exclusively with GHSC. This programme is very much geared for player development and follows a very successful pilot last year with the U10 boy’s teams. An added benefit is that travel commitments are limited for the younger children something I’m sure many parents will appreciate.
We also have had several changes on the Executive and Board of Directors. Joining the Executive is Lise Donaldson (Registrar), while Kathy Butler (Marketing), Doug Noel (House League), Tom Lee (Minis Coordinator) and Doreen McManaman (Game/Practice Scheduler) are new members of the Board. I am very excited about the addition of these five dynamic individuals and believe their enthusiasm and experience leaves the club very well positioned for the next several years. At the same time, we see the departure of Larry Eade, past secretary, treasurer and out-going president. Larry has been on the board since 2000 and during this time Larry has been instrumental in helping to secure the financial well-being of the club. Larry will continue to contribute as both a coach and as financial advisor to the club’s Turf Field Committee (more on that later).
Finally, Angela Brinkworth makes the move from registrar to concession coordinator. Angela is thanked for her considerable contributions to the board over the past six years.
Another change has been the online registration system. This has proven very popular with both parents and coaches alike, and has proven especially useful in planning for this season. In fact, it’s a small wonder how managed to we operate before without one. At present we have over 385 children registered, comprising 34 teams from ages 4 through 17.
There are many off the field developments as well too many to mention in any detail here but I am convinced parents and players will be as excited about them as the board. Over the coming weeks the club will be announcing several new initiatives and I welcome your feedback on them.
17. COMMITMENT
I would also like to invite you to become more involved with the running of our club. It can be as simple as helping put the nets on the goals before the game or running the lines for the coaches when asked. Whatever you can contribute is welcomed. I strongly believe that if our children see parents contributing to the club, then they too will feel a connection with the club and we’ll all be the better off for it.
At the same time, I am committed to our Executive and Board being accountable to the membership and would invite you to contact myself or any board member with any questions, concerns or suggestions on how we might improve the club. Contact information for the Executive and Board Members is available on the club website. We look forward to hearing from you.
Finally, thank you to all the coaches and parent volunteers and best of luck to all of our teams this season!
Thanks Drew!
