Read All About It - Two more Champion quality teams!
Hi everyone - have received information on two more Championship efforts by the Cordova Bay Soccer Club. I wanted to share these whilst the news is fresh. Our congratulations to both teams.
1. Renata Lang sent this report on the CB Vikings U12 boys:
"The past two weekends they played against a very tough, if not sometimes aggressive, team. 1st game, Feb 12, we beat them 2 to 1 with Daniel Jones scoring the winning goal in the last 10 seconds. This was more than just a team win as it was one of Dan's first games back since having knee surgery Jan 18/05(yes soccer injury back on Sept 25). 2nd game, Feb 19, and the word was they were out to beat us thinking our first win was just luck. We again had a very aggressive game with a couple of questionable calls by the ref and a few no calls by the ref for obstruction. In the end CB Vikings were the stronger team winning 4 to 1. Goal scorers included Dan Jones, Connor Boag and Spencer Lucas? Overall a great couple of games played.
2. The Cordova Bay Hot Tamales U12 Girls C Cup team was awarded the Island Championships!
We received this report:
"This is an immense achievement considering 7 of the 17 girls are U11 age. The girls received a bye in the first round. They defeated the Bay United Blizzards 2-1 in an exciting game decided by Penalty Kicks at Carnarvon Park on February 6. We lead 1 - nil at half on a goal by Michele Mezei. The Blizzard's tied the score three quarters into the second half. Overtime was scoreless which lead to the penalty kicks. Goalie Rosie Beale was a wall in our net and stopped all 4 penalty kicks while we netted 2.
We played Salt Spring Stingers in the Lower Island Championships at Lochside Park on February 13. The girls scored an impressive 3-0 win over the Stingers. The score was 2-nil at half, with the girls scoring a second half goal as well to seal the victory. Michelle Mezei scored 2 goals and Emily Zsidi notched the other.
We were scheduled to play Oceanside for the Island Championships on February 27. Unfortunately, they were unable to field a team and had to default the game. Though winning the Island Championships in this fashion was anticlimactic, the girls are overjoyed with their accomplishment so far.
We advance to the Coastal Classic Cup semi-final on Sunday March 13. The game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at Lochside Park. We are hosting the Lower Mainland winner of South District vs. Central Fraser Valley. If you are in town that afternoon, come and cheer the girls on. The winner of our Coastal Classic Cup semi-final will move on to the final on April 2 in the Lower Mainland.
The members of the team are: Bailey, Ali; Beale, Rosie; Dheensaw, Shalie; Gradwell, Athena; Graham, Kelli; Guest, Lauren; Hickson, Georgia; Inness, Morgan; Jaenen, Claire; Lowery, Amelia; Mezei, Michelle; Scigliano, Lianna; Shumka, Annie; Tancock, Tessa; Turner, Nikki; Van Dyk, Melissa; Zsidi, Emilie with Coach - Mezei, Mike and Assistant Coaches Bailey, Doug and Dheensaw, Leslie. The team manager is Dheensaw, Shawn.
OK - Once again many congratulations to all teams!
